His expertise spans the great regions of Bordeaux, Burgundy, and Italy, alongside Australia’s most iconic Shiraz, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. Originally from New Zealand, James’s first vinous love was Hawke’s Bay Cabernet blends—particularly Te Mata Estate’s legendary Coleraine, which still holds pride of place in his cellar. Known for his thoughtful and personalised approach, James assists clients with everything from sourcing rare vintages to shaping world-class collections, always with an eye for both pleasure and provenance.
I represented NZ in sailing in my youth, in Optimist and P-Class, before migrating to Australia. I love keeping fit by lifting weights and running throughout the week to counteract all the wine I'm obliged to 'taste' in the name of research! I enjoy reading in my quiet time, playing football with my son, hosting dinner parties for friends and family and travelling to new parts of the world.
